Just passed my Technician exam (no license yet) and I want to prepare
for the code tests. I have a PC at work and have a fairly nice shareware
program for it (Super Morse). Are there any snazzier programs
available for the PC (free, share, or commercial)? I have a Mac at home
and would like to practice there (I really ought to be working at work!).
Does anyone know of any shareware or commercial programs that will teach
code on the Mac?
Thanks,
Joe
You may want to anonymously FTP into world.std.com in /pub/hamradio
There are directories with respect to the system you want and the type
of program you looking for from that point.

Yeah, this little puppy interests me. Talked to a guy on 17M who raved
about it. Claimed it suppresses receiver noise too. I'd like to know
a bit more about its capabilities (and price!).
Any enlightening info on the DSP-9 ?
I'll post a summary to the newsgroup of anything sent to me as mail...

Yes, they are. Just ftp to world.std.com and check out the
/pub/hamradio directory contents. Enjoy.

Yep, I got that also. About a week before my catalog from Ft. Worth and
a letter of apology for charging for the catalog.
(NOTE: Don't take your 10% card in when you redeemn the coupon for the
catalog. The local store is punching the 10% notch on the card for the
month. If you don't have your card, they'll give you the catalog and
forget about the card.)
..................
Same thing happened to me. I ended up buying an item greater than 15 bucks
and using the $5 coupon. The sales-droid said "If you buy these tapes for
it, you can use your 10% discount card -- however, the computer came up
with the fact that the tapes were on "special" and thus ineligible for any
other discount. I told him "forget it." They do that a lot - caveat
emptor!

Just as the United States expects citizens and visitors alike to
obey the "law of the land", other countries expect you to obey
their laws, be it drug smuggling, etc.

SB SAREX @ AMSAT $STS-58.025
SAREX Keps & Update: 10/28
Thursday 10/28/93 @ 08:00 UTC
The last school group contact was completed yesterday. The Portsmouth HS
in Portsmouth, New Hampshire had a telebridge contact using stations in
California (Ralph Warner, N6MNN) and Texas (Bob Douglas, W5GEL). The
students asked 5 questions during this bridge contact.
Hams across the U.S. and around the world continue to work the Shuttle
Columbia on both voice and packet. Moreover, the completion of school
group contacts has cleared several school backup passes for possible
general QSO opportunities. While the SAREX Working Group cannot fully
guarantee availability, there is a high probability that the STS-58 crew
will be ready to take general calls over the continental U.S. on these
passes. Two of these "scheduled" passes remain. These include orbit
178 at MET 11 days 1 hour 42 minutes (10/29 at 16:35 UTC) and orbit 192
at MET 11 days 22 hours and 29 minutes (10/30 at 13:22 UTC). Please note
that the astronauts operated voice during yesterday's "scheduled" pass
which occurred on 10/27 at 14:59 UTC (Orbit 145). Also note that hams on
the ground heard or worked the Shuttle Columbia crew on several other orbits
yesterday.
Element set GSFC-031, generated by Ron Parise, WA4SIR, is the official SAREX
set for today. Please note that there is only a six second difference
between element set GSFC-025 (released two days ago) and element set GSFC-
031.

The spacecraft has been propagated to the next ascending
node, and the orbit number has been adjusted to bring it
into agreement with the NASA numbering convention.

Subject: Sources of info on older HF gear? (Kenwood, etc)
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Is there a sourcebook on out-of-production HF gear, i.e.,
older Kenwood, Yeasu, Collins stuff? I was fondling a
Kenwood T-58 (model???) transmitter and recceiver set at
a hamfest today when a guy next to me bought it out from
under me. I failed to get the model number, etc. so I guess
I'm looking for a compendium of specs & pix.

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
I just got the little TU-8 so that I can do 10 meter FM with PL, as we
seem to need around here. I didn't get any spec sheet or instructions
though. Anyone have the instruction sheet (copy?) that I can have....
OR can anyone give me instructions on programming the little thing
for various tones? It uses dipswitches so I can only put in one tone,
but that seems to be all I need.

Now, if that doesn't say something about the current licensing
situation, nothing will.

I had an HW101 back in the dark ages and it didn't need an antenna
tuner (possibly because I couldn't aford one). With the selectable
inductance and variable capacitors in the pi network output, it has
essentially a medium-range antenna tuner built in as most of the tube-
type rigs of that day did. I once loaded it up barefoot to a bobwar
fence when my antenna blew down. That was back in Texas where they
have real bobwar fences. Don't know what the SWR of a bobwar fence is...
I couldn't afford an SWR meter either.
Transistors die under high SWRs. Tubes usually only complain a bit.

Why not use the recognized International Standard instead, Year Month Day,
never failed anyone! 1993-11-05
BTW Canada uses Day Month Year, I think the US is the only place in the
world that uses Month Day Year. Anyone care to disagree?
